- Cup drivers racing in Nationwide Series
By NASCAR.COM April 7, 2009 04:04 PM EDT Five races into the season and there is one constant in the Nationwide Series -- Cup drivers have won every race. In fact, Cup drivers average seven of the top-10 spots so far this season with the most (nine) coming at Daytona. This week the series shifts to Nashville Superspeedway where there is no companion Sprint Cup Series race, but there will be a fair share of Cup stars looking to keep the heat on the Nationwide-only drivers.
Some say Cup guys don't belong in the Nationwide Series, others say they make the series better. So should Cup drivers be allowed to race in the Nationwide Series? Read both sides of the argument and then weigh in with your take.
Should Cup drivers be allowed to race in the Nationwide Series? NASCAR POLL click here 79% of the voters say NO. - Quote :

Bill Kimm 363 21% Jason Schoellen 1330 79% Total Votes: 1693 Just limit the # of drivers and for gosh sakes don't let them run for the Championship. That is wrong..... Once at the CUP level NO driver should be allowed a shot at a Championship in a lessor series. I can't think of any other sport that allows that.

| I really hope NASCAR is taking note. I think the fans have spoke. 3 out of 4 fans don't want Cup in Nationwide. - Quote :

| I think they should limit the races for the Cup drivers, like it used to be. | |

| They never limited how many races a Cup driver could run in the NW series. They used to not be eligible for provisionals, but they could race however many times they wanted. | |

True. Plus cup drivers never use to run the full season either. #1 Cup drivers should not be allowed to go for the NW Championship
#2 Each week there should not be more then 5 Cup drivers.... or whatever is necessary to fill a full field.
#3 Limit the # of races each Cup driver can do in a season.
#4 Cup drivers should not be allowed to drive for there Cup Teams. (in other words Edwards can't drive for Roush, Kyle can't drive for Gibbs etc)
#5 No money or points awarded to any Cup driver in the top 35 in points.
That would be my suggestion on how to change the series.

| Yeah, they never limited the # of races a driver could do, but NASCAR also didn't prevent them from running the full schedule if they had wanted to. | |

| Back then drivers didn't want to run the full schedule so there was no need to limit them. I believe Harvick was the first to run both. He was in the Busch/NW series at the time Earnhardt lost his life and was moved to Cup. So there was a reason. 2005 was the last "good" year ~IMO~ when Martin Truex Jr. won it. Somewhere after that it became a cup playground. | |

| The Gibbs cars are just so good. I don't know what they are doing so much better than everyone else. I know that they mentioned that Jack Roush has promised everything possible to the 60 team to make them as good or better than those Gibbs cars though!
They'll get it right. | |

| They should limit the number each Cup driver can attempt in NW- no full season mess. If you are a full-time Cup driver, you don't need to be messing in Nationwide every week. Give each a set amount, and let them pick which tracks they want to run. When their attempts are up, they're up. | |
