Richard Petty away from team, tending to ailing wife

Richard Petty is currently away from his Richard Petty Motorsports team while tending to his wife. He was absent Tuesday at a press conference to announce his team's recent merger with Yates Racing and switch to Ford.

“My family has always been my number one priority," Petty said in a statement released Friday. "I hate to miss any racing or racing-related
event, but at this time being with my wife Lynda is where I need to be.”

The statement said the Petty family is thankful for the support of its family, friends and fans.
