Nationwide announces special bonus for 4 races

CONCORD, N.C. - Nationwide Insurance has announced a program that will add $25,000 to the winner’s purse at four NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2009.

Winners at Nashville Superspeedway, Kentucky Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Memphis Motorsports Park will earn an extra $25,000 if they are a driver running the full Nationwide schedule. If a driver who is ineligible for the reward wins one of the races, the prize money will be rolled over to the next race in the competition.

The series sponsor announced the "Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash" during Tuesday's Sprint Media Tour presented by Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Several drivers attending Tuesday's event - most notably Rusty Wallace Racing teammates Steve Wallace and Brendan Gaughan - said the cash incentive could make them drive more aggressively given the chance to win one of those races.

The program also includes a $50,000 season-end bonus to the eligible driver with the highest point total over the four races.

"We wanted to provide some additional support for drivers in our series," said John Aman, associate vice president of strategic sponsorships for Nationwide. "We also hope that these bonuses encourage competition and contribute to more exciting racing for the fans."

I think this is a great idea, and it's good that it's supporting the NW drivers.

That's a good deal, too bad the truck series couldn't come up with something like that as well, these teams are struggling more than their Cup counterparts!

I agree it is a good idea. It should be for Nationwide ONLY drivers..... so Shrub and Edward won't benefit this...sorry but I just hate to see Cup drivers take any more money away from the NW only teams.

According to Sirius, full time Spring Cup drivers are NOT eligible for this bonus, so Carl and Kyle can NOT get it.

I'm getting sick of seeing NASCAR's #2 and #3 Series invaded with full-time Cup drivers.
