- Villeneuve to the #43 at Watkins Glen: Dominic Fugère of Rue Frontenac reports that Jacques Villeneuve will run the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International. Villeneuve said "It's already qualified a car, a good car" [meaning a car/team that is in the top-35 of owners points, looking thru the list a few stand out as possible teams: #12-Stremme, #6-Ragan, #34-Andretti]. But no team is mentioned in the article.(Rue Frontenac - translated)(8-5-2009)
UPDATE: Jacques Villeneuve will be back in Sprint Cup this weekend at Watkins Glen. Villeneuve, who is currently in Europe, has received an offer from Richard Petty Motorsports replace Reed Sorensen at the wheel of the #43 Dodge [for Watkins Glen]. Villeneuve, said that in talks with the new team USF1 for a possible return to Formula 1, and said that other proposals to run in NASCAR by the end of the season.(Translated from monvolant.cyberpresse.ca)(8-5-2009) Not the best decision IMO. Jacques doesn't have the stock car experience to put in a solid run for them. Should have gotten Scott Pruett or Ricky Rudd or someone in the car if they have to pull Reed... not sure what they're accomplishing by taking him out, though, he's not on the top-35 bubble or anything...

- UPDATE 2: Jacques Villeneuve came close to a return to Sprint Cup this weekend at Watkins Glen. Villeneuve received an offer from the Richard Petty Motorsports team to replace Reed Sorensen at the wheel of the # 43 Dodge. Sorenson, injured last weekend [had not heard this] at Pocono, had agreed with his team to skip the demanding road race circuit and be back in the #43 for the remainder of the season.(translated from monvolant.cyberpresse.ca)(8-5-2009)
Statement from Richard Petty Motorsports: Reed Sorenson will drive the #43 Dodge for Richard Petty Motorsports in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International. The Petty team retained Jacques Villeneuve as a substitute driver in case Sorenson continued to suffer from the effects of carbon monoxide he inhaled in Monday's race at Pocono. Fortunately, Sorenson has recovered from the accident. Owners George and Foster Gillett along with the Richard Petty Motorsports team appreciate Villeneuve's willingness to help out on such short notice.(RPM)(8-5-2009) Good, glad to hear that Reed will be in the car.

| I've been away on vacation in Colorado and New Mexico for the past week and missed the Cup race. Can someone tell me what happened in the accident that collected Reed please? | |

| David Ragan bumped Bobby Labonte into turn 1, taking out a bunch of cars... it was a mess. | |

| That was just plain unlucky for Reed... hated to see that. JR did try to run over and apologize, but Reed was already driving off... | |

| Yep. At least they continued the no DNF streak for what it's worth. Unfortunately, a lot of wrecks and parts breaking have happened this year with the 43. | |
