PostSubject: Toyota All Star Showdown at Irwindale on SPEED   Toyota All Star Showdown at Irwindale on SPEED EmptySun Jan 18, 2009 4:10 pm

Quote :
The sixth edition of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown will feature two days of exciting action among some of the nation’s greatest short-track drivers in NASCAR Camping World Series and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition.

The prestigious postseason event, the ‘Daytona 500 of short-track racing,’ is slated for Jan. 23-24, 2009 at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.).

In addition to the NASCAR Camping World Series, which is NASCAR’s top developmental series, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be featured in Late Model and Super Late Model competition. The series is the weekly racing, grassroots foundation of NASCAR.

Both nights of all-star action will be aired live on SPEED, which has broadcast the event in each of its first five years. Broadcasts will begin at 7 p.m. PT each night. It will be part of a packed weekend on SPEED that includes the Rolex 24 at Daytona sports car event.

A full day of on-track activity kicks off for the NASCAR Camping World Series on Friday, Jan. 23 with practice and qualifying, leading up to the 250-lap feature race on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Thirteen drivers have each already secured a spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown by winning a NASCAR Camping World Series race this year. In addition, champions of each of NASCAR’s developmental series also earned secured spots in the event.

Other positions in the starting lineup will be determined through time trials, which are slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, and limited provisionals for NASCAR Camping World Series regulars. Rounding out Friday’s activity for the NASCAR Camping World Series will be a “Last Chance Open” race at 9:10 p.m. that provides drivers one final opportunity to make the final 40-car starting grid for Saturday’s feature race (all times listed Pacific Time Zone).

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models will also be featured on Friday, with qualifying at 4 p.m., and the 150-lap Super Late Model race set to go green at 7:35 p.m.

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model action, meanwhile, gets underway Friday afternoon with practice. Qualifying is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, leading up to a 75-lap Late Model race that is scheduled to start at 7:12 p.m.

The NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown weekend will be capped off with a 250-lap feature event for the NASCAR Camping World Series, with the 40-car field set to take the green flag at 8:31 p.m.

To purchase tickets for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, fans can go to www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com or call the track at (626) 358-1100.

Will be good to see some actual racing on Speed, rather than Pinks or something like that!

Whos everyone cheering for? I guess I'll be cheering for Scott Steckley a fellow member & competitor from our series (NCATS) up here. I wish he were in a Ford, and I'm not really sure, how good the car is, that he's in.

Guess I'll have to find someone beside Scott to cheer for as well, that is in a Ford. Wink

I hear ya, Andrew. Nothing on tv at all, not like when SPEED used to televise the reruns. I've been trying to fill the void with SimRacing and Message boards. Wink

There's a few good races on ESPN-Classic, I watched Labonte win the 1999 MIS race, good battle at the end withLabonte, Earnhardt Sr., Tony Stewart (rookie), & Jeff Gordon. lol.

I got ARCA SimRacing 08 for Christmas, it's awesome!

I'm waiting for NASCAR to post an entry list, of who's all racing in Irwindale?

Tks for finding a list Andrew, I did a search earlier and come up blank. I forgot about Harr, he used to race in our series up here too!

As far as Ford's go, think I"ll go for Jason Bowles maybe???

I wish we could have sent Andrew back down in a decent ride. Sad

Why am I not surprised by Logano and Hornaday's actions this evening. Rolling Eyes

I've always know that Hornaday is a jerk! But Joey??? I thought he had his head screwed on straight. Guess not!

Finally NASCAR took a WIN away for rough driving!! Thank you .... it's about time!! Very Happy

I hope they score him 40th.Nothing would please me more. Twisted Evil

~IMO Logano, Hornaday and Crafton had no business in that race.

Looks like Joey still needs to learn how to race hard without wrecking people. I think in time he will learn how to do so, but he is still young and inexperienced. Hopefully he learned something from this race, because the veterans in Cup will have a field day with him if he has too many "screw-up" moments there.

Actually I feel sorry for Joey. The media has him so hyped up with all that "sliced bread crap".
I'm sure he's under alot of pressure..... but that does not excuse his actions.

He is young..... plenty of time to learn.
Hopefully he won't turn out to be another Gibbs whiner. Rolling Eyes

I'm sure he will learn, as he seems to have a level-head on his shoulders (at least for now).

The last thing I want to see is another Stewart, Hamlin or KB, so you know where Joey will end up if he picks up that attitude...

...on my least favorite drivers list! Wink Laughing

Ron Hornaday was just wrecking everyone he caught. Poor showcase of driving, especially for a champion.

I give Joey a little more lee-way, since he was going for the win on the last lap. BUT, I still think his move was uncalled for. Peyton Sellers is going to have to come all the way back to Danville, VA with a torn up race car. Joey will just hop on his plane and jet back over, never to see that race car again. Should have had a little more respect for his competitors. Glad NASCAR penalized him and took the win. Unfortunately, that's little solace for Sellers, who, instead of a win, gets credited with 13th and a wrecked car.

Tough deal. I did think that Joey handled the interview very well post-race, as did Sellers. Both were very mature about the situation.

Great race though; lots of short track beating and banging - and a lot of 3 and 4 wide action. Smile

Hornaday u wreckless doof

This isn't really a defense to Logano, but Sellers didn't pass him or that other one cleanly (Bowers was it?)

Little revenge, little go for the win last lap stuff, and little Carl Edwards mentality Very Happy Laughing (Kansas)
